“To protect your energy…
It’s okay to cancel a commitment.
It’s okay to not answer a call.
It’s okay to change your mind.
It’s okay to want to be alone.
It’s okay to take a day off.
It’s okay to do nothing.
It’s okay to speak up.
It’s okay to let go.”
“It’s okay”…what powerful words we can tell ourselves to quiet the racing voice in our mind that harshly admonishes us that we have never done enough or been enough. I don’t know about you, but part of me will always be the good girl waiting for permission to go to recess before I feel justified in taking a break. At times in my life, I have not been protective of my energy. I have given more than I feel able to give others at my own expense. While I cringe at the “selfishness” of that statement, I sense that I am not alone among fellow women who give and give – until they can give no more.
So, I am giving you permission. I am telling you that it’s okay to take care of yourself. It is okay to follow that quiet whisper behind the critical voice. The whisper that you’ve been neglecting. The whisper that knows what you want and need, if only you will listen. It’s okay…
